Coaching Guidelines

Our goal is to help you achieve your goals. We treat every athlete as an Olympic athlete with professional service, respect, integrity, and transparency. The best way to get somewhere is with a map. A coach is that map to help you achieve those goals. Our philosophy is mapping out your goals and providing you with the best directions to achieve those goals.
Our coaching style is different from the rest because we use a scientific approach. We coach you by utilizing the three energy systems (Aerobic, Glycolytic, ATP-PCr). These different energy systems are important in helping your body become a more efficient engine. Aerobic for base building, Glycolytic to help you maintain those hard efforts, and ATP-PCr system for those explosive bursts. Since we all are created different our bodies respond different to the training load or stimulus, which is why we do not believe in or use a cookie cutter approach. All of our coaching programs are created to fit your goals, skill level, and needs.
The key to success is measuring and managing your training. If you are not training with a device to measure and track your training then how are your going to succeed. "What gets measured gets managed" Peter Drucker. If you are not collection data then you are no managing your TSS, CTL, and matches burned.
One of the best ways athlete can track his or her is to have a device to measure your power, heart rate, cadence, and speed. Which is why we recommend all KLTS athletes to utilize a power meter and heart rate monitor. A power meter records your effort from both a cardiovascular (heart rate) and a muscular force (watts). A power meter measures your true rate of work (power), which is how hard you are able to push down on the pedals. Training with a power meter (SRM, Powertap, Quarq, etc.) gives you the opportunity to focus on specific parts of the physical demands for cycling. Although if you don't have a power meter we can help you obtain one. The alternative route is having a heart rate monitor with cadence, speed, and mapping capabilities. The device needs to be downloadable.
However, for runners we recommend GPS with heart rate. The reason we like a GPS feature is to track your pace. From the field test we can provide you with training intensities for heart rate and pace. Runners need to be able to track their pace and heart rate.
Power meters and GPS allow you to track the following:
- Track Fitness Changes
- Analyze your races
- Target your strengths and weaknesses
- Pace you efforts
- Know how many matches you have burned in a race
- Be able to see how many Kilo joules your have burned which relates to how much fuel you need
- Enhance Indoor Training
- Creates a mobile testing lab
